Here’s a short clip of my mate Nick Colbey getting barreled. It shot on a gopro hero2 @ 50fps with some twixxtor wizardry added for additional awesomeness.
No, this is not the title of Arnold Schwarzeneger’s new movie on steroids. Australia’s east coast is experiencing a huge swell at the moment and the Bay is pumping. We’re expecting even better conditions for tomorrow morning. Merry Christmas everyone!
While most people stuck to the spots that had been good for the last few days, a handful of surfers with local knowledge and the ever lasting urge to explore got rewarded with waves like this one.
This chunky beast slipped through unridden…

Good morning everyone… after a good week of absolute flatness, the waves are finally back. – Caveman Johnny Abegg in his natural habitat.
WOW, I don’t know where to start really. Well, I’ve just got my first cover shot in a surf magazine plus a feature on my photography and an interview. I am stoked to say the least…
I’d like to thank all of my friends and everyone else who has touched me along the way. And of course Johnny Abegg, who can been seen on the cover, for fun times in the water. We did it bud!
Johnny Abegg, Patagonia team rider, dodging the in-water speed camera. Magical sesh on the open beaches near Byron Bay…
A couple of frames from last night doing some more milky way timelapse tests. Watch out for the upcoming short film “Baylapse the Movie” to be released in early 2013.
Hailey-Marie McFadden duck diving a glass cylinder near Byron Bay. The water clarity is exceptionally good at the moment…
Fun waves out the front, just you and your mates… it’s still possible. Good friend and Patagonia team rider Johnny Abegg graciously tearing up the playground.
There’s been some swell around lately. While options were pretty limited in Byron, further down south things were looking a lot different. At this particular spot Jetski or Thundercat were the weapons of choice. This is Beau Young on the wave of the morning.
TRACKS magazine is running one of the photos I took of Kieren Perrow surfing his home break as a double page spread in their current issue. I love how the article, KP’s words and the photo show how good this place really is. It’s not Snapper Rocks, Shippies or Winki… NO, it’s a 1000 times better, breaking right in front of our homes… day in day out.
We’ve had quite a few stunning sunsets and sunrises in a row now. This photo was taken from the most easterly point in Australia. Little Wategos, Byron Bay.
One of those rare summer days when all the elements align. Blue skies, crystal clear water, white sand… Tallow Beach looking like the Caribbean!
Awesome sunset in the mountains tonight. Shot some timelapse as well… hope it turns out.
Looks like the rain was one week early this year. The weather is unusually good for the blue fest weekend. Lots of sun and summery water temperatures guaranteeing a perfect easter holiday in the bay.
The guys from Common Ground Byron Bay did a feature on my photography. Go check it out… there is a ton of other cool stuff on their website as well. Click here to read the article.
New swell, new luck… Surf should be going off tomorrow morning. | Byron Bay, Main Beach
How good is the light on this one… This is the Byron Bay Lighthouse with 91% of the super moon to its left and the southern cross (crux) to its right.
Swell running a bit wide into Lennox Head… still worth checking out though. Due to it’s angle and the wind most of the other spots in the area are not surfable.
